Define "web hosting" and "reasonable."

Under the topic "web hosting," what do you absolutely require and what
would you like to have? What kind of project are you putting out there?
A blog? Static content? Do you need a database? Perhaps you'd like to
add VoIP or a Teamspeak server down the road?

"I need PHP 5.1 at a minimum but would prefer 5.3."
"I'd like to have ssh access but can get by with ftp*."
"I'm looking for a CDN to serve static assets while leveraging a
scalable MySQL database for dynamic user content coupled with mailing
list management and a photo stream."

In terms of cost, some people think $10/month is too expensive while
others shell out $100 or more a month.

I've used Dreamhost, Freeshell and serve content from my home network -
all for various reasons and at various costs.

*If you ever use plain old ftp, consider your account compromised. I
hear people say "so what if they get my password, no one cares about my
web pages." It's not necessarily your web pages that interests them,
it's what they can do with the account IN YOUR NAME - hosting cracked
software, attacking corporate/government networks, spamming people. It's
your account and you are criminally and financially liable for all
activities that happen to it and through it.
