I thought this seemed like a great idea. Perhaps it works on Plan9 or Solaris 
but it doesn't work under Linux. "make; make install" completes without 
error. But "make self_test" complains of syntax errors in 
"# include <stdio.h>" --- plus hundreds of further errors.
