Hi James,
I really don't know much about the situation WRT sun. It may well be the
problem is not that of willful intent, but rather of ignorance of the
situation. Even if there was a time in ancient history when a person
actively rejected such a proposal, times have changed. It would seem silly,
to me, for sun to sit on this ancient code in view of their commitment to
open source with Java. Considering the fact that James Gosling was once an
Emacs hacker himself, it would seem almost evil.
