Online reviews of the book note that the author is heavy on VI and
light on Emacs. This remark by the author is a further indication
that he doesn't really know what is going on in the world of Emacs.
While the book has gotten good reviews, I take this as a sign that any
mention of Emacs in the book should be taken with a grain of salt.

In what way did XEmacsVsGNUemacs.html fail to answer your questions
about the difference?
