Sometimes I just can't understand why people bother putting up with all
this. And then I go back to open my accordion and fix some valves. Or
try making some register switch more reliable by bending it around,
breaking it, hardsoldering it together again, filing.
Burnt away part of a gear block
<URL:http://home.arcor.de/david.kastrup/block.jpg> trying to hardsolder
gearage that had gained too much leeway over time. Cut a new lever from
a brass plate, leadsoldered it on, refilled the block with wood mortar.
Why do I bother fiddling around with shaky one-of-a-kind mechanics older
than myself?
Because the thing is good. Maybe somewhat overengineered with its
generalized bass section (move the octave break anywhere you like
(assuming the lever does not stick) at runtime rather than have it
compiled in).
Um, cough, cough.
Good luck.
