Hi All, let me summarize what I have gathered so far, interspersed
with some questions.
Please send any corrections you may have.
John recommends using puck.nether.net for additional DNS backup, based
on his own experience.
Sandy, can you please add puck.nether.net (204.42.254.5) at
networksolution.com?
John is happy with gandi.net for domain registration.
It appears they are a lot less expensive than networksolution.com
See
https://www.gandi.net/domain/price/info
Sandy, should we consider switching?
John suggests to use human readable time formats in DNS configuration
files.
Martin, can you directly use the db.xemacs
file I sent you?
Martin, can your DNS service handle human-readable units (h, d, w)?
Martin, if not, how should keep the configuration at gwyn.tux.org and
dotsrc.org and yxa.extundo.com, and possibly puck.nether.net[1] in
sync?
Simon has wanted to get extundo.com out of the xemacs.org MX bakup
role for a long time and we should do this now.
Also, currently yxa.extundo.com is incurring varying, sometimes
substantial delay in xemacs.org mail delivery (according to
"Received:" headers).
Looking for Backup MX I find:
http://www.dnsexit.com/Direct.sv?cmd=backupMx
My major concern is that back MX services might be tempted to harvest
mail addresses.
Hmmh, what about
http://blogs.3sharp.com/Blog/deving/archive/2007/01/11/2773.aspx
Does that article make sense, stating that backup MX is an anachronism
and could be avoided all together?
Ah, OK, the bottom line is that backup MX is still a good idea.
http://www.editdns.net/
also provides free backup MX IIUC.
I quote:

Later,
Adrian
Footnotes:
[1] I think I will have to manually update it via GUI, which is not my
preferred UI.
