[Yhslug] evening computer job at takoma park maryland library

hi yhslug community,

    a part-time evening job is opening at the public computer center where i
work in takoma park, maryland.  the job announcement is below.

     the job involves helping youth and adults use the 28 linux stations in the
public library and adjacent community center. (actually, the community center is
the focus of the job. the public libraries give occasional assistance to the 4
stations in the library.)

       we use a solution from userful.com -- which is based on fedora core 4. 
you don't need to know linux for this job, but it is helpful if you're familiar
with openoffice.org, the GIMP, yahoo mail, etc.

       my supervisor, rebecca brown, is keen to find someone who lives
relatively close to the library. i'm posting this to the yhslug list in case
anyone on the list knows of free software enthusiasts in lower montgomery
county, DC, or p.g. county that might be interested in such a part-time job.

btw, i'm not involved in the hiring -- other than in disseminating info about
the job. i like working here. there are about 90 nationalities in takoma park --
and they all come to use the public computers.



Instructional Assistant - Library Computer Center (Takoma Park)

Assist residents who use the public computers in the City's community center.
Help them with word processing, e-mail, and other common activities. Maintain
the rules. Monitor the security of the computer room equipment.

Two years of college or the equivalent in applicable work experience. Basic
computer skills. Experience working with the public. Prior experience with open
source applications and Linux would be beneficial but is not required. Takoma
Park residency is desirable.

The hours are 6 to 8 PM, Monday to Friday.

This is not an internship. It is a regular, part-time, year-round 10 hour/week
position with the City of Takoma Park.
