[Yhslug] installing ubuntu on an inspiron B130

hi group,

     a very nice community member asked me for help installing ubuntu on her
dell inspiron B130 laptop. windows had crashed and she was ready to say goodbye
to it.

      i happened to have an ubuntu 5.04 disk nearby. the install looked like it
went well, but now she's getting a black screen right after entering her user name.

       it feels like a hardware problem to me. anyone have any experience with
something similar?

the fun thing about this is that i'm doing this linux install as part of my
regular work day at the takoma park maryland library.  this is not an official
library service, but nobody is going to tell me not to do it.  i work pretty
hard here and my supervisor approves of me serving the community in whatever
ways i see fit.
