Hey all--

We've been talking about this for a while, and April is the time for a
YHSLUG meeting targeted to people unfamiliar with libre and Linux. We would
advertise to the school through daily announcements, and try to lure as many
people from the school, both students and faculty, as well as people from
outside, with the promise of Free Software and Free Pizza.

The agenda for the meeting would go something like this:
1) Intro to free software, Linux, etc. with a focus on why Joe Yorktown
would want to use in instead of Windows. Maybe use Firefox as a practical
example, real quick, of what libre can do. This bit would be maybe 10 or 15
minutes, just an intro.

2) Short break for questions and so on, then talk about Ubuntu. Give out
CDs. Start an install on some machine, have it running on a separate monitor
as we demonstrate how wonderful and flexible and awesome Ubuntu is on the
projector.

3) Pizza. This is why people will show up anyway.

4) Something hands-on. Show how to use our new, fresh install. Show off what
it comes with, how to add more, if it's on a decent machine, install and
show off Beryl or xgl (or do that as part of step 2)

5) Give out more CDs. Give out copies of the stuff we presented on. Set a
date for an InstallFest. Get people's email, send them home.

If anyone can do a part of that presentation (pretty desktops especially)
drop a line to the group. Us students (Matt Gallagher and me) can do most of
the talking.
